Phuket has a number of special local dishes which are
different from those of other parts of Thailand and visitors should not
miss trying. Here are some of them.

A fattening snack favoured by the local people cooked with pork, meat, heads, hearts, tongues, lungs and intestines which are seasoned with Chinese spices and stewed for several hours. They are then deep fried and served cucumber and chilli sauce. The well known shops are the one on Phuket Road on the way to Sapan Hin and the other one on Krabi Road opposite Mea Ya nang Shrine. |
Kanom Jeen Phuket |

Kanom Jeen or rice noodle is one of very popular
breakfast menus for the people in Phuket. There are many kinds of
curried served with Kanom Jeen, such as Nam Choop or dipping, Nam
Ya Curry which is made from flakes of cooked fish, curry paste and
coconut milk, Kang Tai Pla or the curry prepared from the viscera
of fish, Chicken Curry. Kanom Jeen is usually served with various
kinds of vegetables, boiled eggs, Pa Tong Koh wich is the Chinese
version of doughnuts and How Mok, the seatmed fish mixed with curry
paste and coconut milk. Kanom Jeen is available in many shops in
early morning. The well know shops are Khwan Shop on Thoong Kha
Road , Pa Mai Shop on Satul Roed and others. |

Ho Mok is steamed curried fish (or crab
or other seafood) with vegetables held in a banana leaf or
foil container. It should be eaten with steamed rice. |

This sweet is like jelly. It is made of
KUAY Nam Wa, a kind of banana mixed with agar. Oh Oiew is
served with syrup and ice. The orginial famous shops are in
Soon Uthit Sub -land on Yaowarat Road, and the other one is
on Vichitsongkram Road near the entrance of Lhor Loeng Sub-
lane.

The vermicelli soup with egg or pork is
very popular for both people in Phuket and visitors. It´s
normally available in many rice porridge shops such as Khoo
Khan Shop near Phuket Ruam Phiat Hospital in Bang Neow on
the way to Sapan Hin and other shops in Phuket. |

The cashew nut is a famous local product
of Phuket. It is used to make various kinds of delicious snacks,
for example, roasted cashew nuts with salt, cashew nuts fried
with garlic, cashew nuts coated with chocolate and honeyed
cashew nut brittle.

Mee Hoon or vermicelli fried in soy sauce
and garnished with fried onion flakes. It is usually served
with bowl of clear soup. This food is served at many shops,
such as a shop in Soon Uthit Sub - lane on Yaowarat Road. |

Hokkien Mee is made and cooked with yellow
noodle or egg noodle It is cooked in soup or fried with fish sauce
and some ingredients topped with sliced por k and shrimps. There are
some very old delicious Hokkien Mee shops, such as Mee Ton Pho shop
near the clock Tower on Phuket Road, Mee Aua Kae Shop on pool Phon
Road, and Mee Sapam Shop. The delicious Hokkien Mee in soup is available
at some well know shops such as Somjit Mee Shop near the clock Tower
or Jirayuwat Mee Shop near Pearl Cinema |
