Phuket Beaches
![]() Bangtao BeachBang Tao Beach isa large open bay, and second longest beach on Phuket at over 8 km long. It was once used for tin mining, but has since been developed into a luxury resort. Most of it is occupied by the Laguna complex, a massive five-hotel development with golf course. There are, however, accommodations available outside Laguna at the bay's south end.

![]() Promthep CapePromthep Cape is a simple rocky hill with no immediate interest. However, this is the most southerly point on the island at it is sunsets and views of Phuket’s southern coast you are here for! A flight of steps leads to the top of Promthep Cape and from there you have an excellent view of the “half-moon” bay housing Nai Harn Beach.

![]() Ya Nui BeachYanui Beach, which you might see written as Ya Nui or Yanoi, is a quiet little cove located near Nai Harn Beach. Yanui Beach is a scenic spot that is an ideal place for swimming, kayaking and snorkeling. The whole area is beautiful and the sand is perfect.

![]() Cape PanwaJust a short 10 minute drive from Phuket Town, Cape Panwa is a lesser-known area where rubber and palm plantations still outnumber the resorts, and where Phuket's deep sea port and naval base are found. The roads are quiet, offering the chance to take in the sea views and other sights as you wind around the cape. |
![]() Chalong BayAo Chalong is Phuket's main boat anchorage and the island's largest bay and although good for boating, it is not good for swimming. Most people come here to charter boats or get on a boat trip to one of the nearby islands. There are also several diving operations here.
Another reason for visiting Ao Chalong is the beautiful Wat Chalong.

![]() Kalim BeachJust north of Patong Bay, starting from about the Novotel Resort Hotel Patong to Thavorn Bay Resort, this area consists of rocky but quiet beaches, and an interesting road leading up into hills with high viewpoints and a few good quality restaurants perched on the edge and top. Some housing compounds are now being built on the hillsides. |
![]() Laem Sing BeachOne of the Islands smallest beaches and local spot requires a steep walk and inside knowledge, but once there you could be on another planet. Busy in high season and renowned for its Dec - March Sunday evening beach party with DJs and great cocktails. A hot spot and worth the effort. |
![]() Rawai BeachRawai holds the distinction of being the very first tourist beach on Phuket. Years ago, people from Phuket Town would drive the 17km to Rawai on weekends to while away the afternoon underneath the beach's causarina trees rather than risk the (then) dangerous drive over the hill to Phuket's west coast.

Surin Beach is situated on the west coast of Phuket island at the end of Sri Sunthorn Rd., A curving bay beneath the foothills on the north of Kamala and bordering on a hillside, Surin Beach has a powdery white sand beach but the precipitous incline means powerful surf, a treacherous undertow and turbulent water, including huge waves. |

The second largest of Phuket's tourist beaches. Large resort complexes line the road behind of the shoreline, but the long, broad beach itself has no development. The sand is very white, and squeaks audibly when walked upon. The southern point has a fine coral reef stretching toward Kata and Bu Island.

![]() Mai Khao BeachLocated just north of the airport is Mai Khao beach, an incredibly long and deserted stretch of sand. There is no tourist development here except for the JW Marriott Resort & Spa. Mai Khao is the longest beach on the island and also the most deserted. If you really want to get away from it all this is the beach for you.
